Assessment

Hello fellas!!!

Speaking about assessment, we usually think about grading, scoring, judging. It's about the result of assessing that can be in the form of quality or quantity. Almost everyday in every area in our life, we face that thing that called assessment. It can be assessment in school, assessment in job, etc.

In teaching English to young learners we also need that so-called assessment. But in assessing young learners, we need a different way to assess compared to older learners. We need to assess the kids carefully in order to avoid an issue where the toung learners would lose their interest in learning cause in some cases children who got a low grade may lose their motivation in learning. Maybe it's because they have studied really hard, they have given their best, but when they got a low assessment they'll think like their effort is useless. 

So, in order to keep them motivated, we shouldn't give only one assessment to achieve the goal. Because every student have different kind of intelegence, some of them might be good in theory, some in practicality, some in other area, etc. So, the achievement should be vary so the assessment will be fair to everyone. Teacher can provide different kinds of assessments in order to achieve the goal. 

Also, the way the students started to learn are also different. For example, when learning how to read, some students might already fluent, some good enough, and some maybe just about to started. If the teacher only assess the fluency, therefore it's not fair, cause everyone has different start. To kake it fair, teacher should assess them from their progress, whether they are improved or not. Then, it must be more fair to all of them.

Hello, nice to see you again! When teaching English to young learners, all things needed is really different compared to teaching older learners, including the materials.  In teaching young learners, we need to design materials that not only needed or important to be taught, but also we have to consider the readiness of the learners to learn those mateials. No matter how important a certain material needed, if the learners don't ready yet, then it would be useless. Not only in designing the materials, but teacher also need to consider the materials evaluation. We have to avoid a bias evaluation and an unfair materials evaluation. We should evaluate based on the student's position, point of view, inteligence, personality, condition, etc. We shouldn't give the same evaluation for every individual that obviously different one another.

Rituals in School

Hello guys, see you again in this lovely day. Do you guys have rituals that y'all did with your teacher back in school? You know, I mean, it's a kind of habit that you did whether it's before entering the class, during the class, or after the class. I guess you have, don't you?  Cause you know when we're in school, especially in elementery school, we usually had habits like greeted the teacher or kissed the teachers' hands or whatever.  Well, today I'm going to talk about those habits or so-called rituals that I had back in elementary school days.  When I was in elementary school, the rituals we usually did in the morning when we're in the courtyard doing the go-ahead. We usually had a 'sarapan pagi'. Here, the 'sqrapan pagi' is not kind of break fast that people usually have, like having a meal. Here, we did like counting. So, the teachers would choose the student randomly then everyone who was chosen would do the counting while the teac...
