Learning the first language at home and at school
Hello guys, welcome back to my blog!
I hope all of you guys are in a good condition😇
So, guys, as you can see in the title, now I'm going to talk about learning the first language at home and at school.
Home and school are two environments which influence most of children's personality and knowledge, because these two places are where the children spend most of their time. In these places, they start to develop their basic knowledge, one of which is their language.
How the children speak, what kinds of vocabularies they used, and else. All are influenced by the family or teachers and school's participants because those people are who teach the children to speak at the very start.
We might think that the kinds of vocabularies needed in home and school is same. But, in fact, it's not. Apparently, kinds of vocabularies needed in home is really different compared to school.
For example, in school we have many vocabularies which are really seldom to use in daily activities in home. Such as, square root (math), photosynthesis (biology), chemical (chemistry), mass (physics), etc.
The kinds of vocabulary used in home is called as basic interpersonal communicative skill (BICS). Here the vocabularies used are simpler, common, and easy because this kinds of words are used offtenly in our daily activities. While the kinds of vocabulary used in school is called as cognitive academic language proficiency (CALP) which is more complex, rare, and difficult because this kinds of words are rarely used.
So, there are two kinds of vocabularies which develop children's first language and these two are developed in different places. So, it's hoped that all the parents, carers, teachers, etc. participated well in developing children's first language in order to achieve children's language proficiency.
