Learn to learn


Hello! Welcome back!

Have you ever heard the terms "learn to learn"? It might be a little confusing for those who know that for the first time. The meaning of learning to learn is the ability to pursue and persist in learning, to organise one's own learning, including through effective management of time and information, both individually and in groups. 

The point of learning to learn is to learn or develop our knowledge so we can use it in many fields in our life.  We keep learning because everything keeps changing, when everything is changing, our needs will change as well-including the needs in education. 

The way and the goals of teaching young learners will far more different compared to young learners 10 years ago. While I was a kid we used to be taught the theory without practicing. The goal is only to understand a certain material theorically, because the assessment only in the form of quiz. So, whoever memorize the theory better, then they will be the best or they are the ones who achieved the goal. No matter if they don't know what that material actually means, how it works in real life, or how to explain that in a simpler way. They just tend to memorize the theory.

But now it's totally different. Todays young learners are more in to the practicallity rather than the theory, now they are decided whether they achieve the goal or not when they are able to not only know the theory but also able to create or practice the theory. It's because the need of human resources for now emphasized more on their creativity in creating something. Therefore everyone needs to keep learning or learn to learn, including young learners. 

Learning from experiences can be part of learn to learn. And this is a good thing to be taught to young learners so they keep learning. This can be applied to them by telling them to not affraid of making mistakes. When they make some mistakes, we shouldn't punish or shout at them instead we can tell them to learn from their mistakes. Tell them that it's wrong and let them know which is the correct one, then they will learn while learning.

Hello, nice to see you again! When teaching English to young learners, all things needed is really different compared to teaching older learners, including the materials.  In teaching young learners, we need to design materials that not only needed or important to be taught, but also we have to consider the readiness of the learners to learn those mateials. No matter how important a certain material needed, if the learners don't ready yet, then it would be useless. Not only in designing the materials, but teacher also need to consider the materials evaluation. We have to avoid a bias evaluation and an unfair materials evaluation. We should evaluate based on the student's position, point of view, inteligence, personality, condition, etc. We shouldn't give the same evaluation for every individual that obviously different one another.

Assessment

Hello fellas!!! Speaking about assessment, we usually think about grading, scoring, judging. It's about the result of assessing that can be in the form of quality or quantity. Almost everyday in every area in our life, we face that thing that called assessment. It can be assessment in school, assessment in job, etc. In teaching English to young learners we also need that so-called assessment. But in assessing young learners, we need a different way to assess compared to older learners. We need to assess the kids carefully in order to avoid an issue where the toung learners would lose their interest in learning cause in some cases children who got a low grade may lose their motivation in learning. Maybe it's because they have studied really hard, they have given their best, but when they got a low assessment they'll think like their effort is useless.  So, in order to keep them motivated, we shouldn't give only one assessment to achieve the goal. Rituals in School

Hello guys, see you again in this lovely day. Do you guys have rituals that y'all did with your teacher back in school? You know, I mean, it's a kind of habit that you did whether it's before entering the class, during the class, or after the class. I guess you have, don't you?  Cause you know when we're in school, especially in elementery school, we usually had habits like greeted the teacher or kissed the teachers' hands or whatever.  Well, today I'm going to talk about those habits or so-called rituals that I had back in elementary school days.  When I was in elementary school, the rituals we usually did in the morning when we're in the courtyard doing the go-ahead. We usually had a 'sarapan pagi'. Here, the 'sqrapan pagi' is not kind of break fast that people usually have, like having a meal. Here, we did like counting.
