Experience about teaching young learners


Hello guys, here is my new blog since we now are in our fifth semester. This blog is to talk anything about TEYL or Teaching English to Young Learners. 

So guys, this is going to be my very first post in this blog. This post is about experience in teaching English to young learners but since I have never had experience to teach English to young learners, I'll talk about my expectation on how to teach English to children instead and else that is related to TEYL. 

I think TEYL is about learning or finding a good way or method on how to teach English to kids. In this major, I expect that we'll be trained how to be a good teacher by telling us stuffs that's need to be known and concerned by a new teacher so we can do well when we'll become a teacher one day. 

Considering that kids is a phase where they will be so talkative and their curiousity level will be so high. I think that being their teacher will be so hard cause we have to face all their attitude and answer all their questions. I expect it to be this way is because I lived in an enviroment that is full of kids, so I think I know how exhausting is that. In addition, because kids are still very innocent and they are still in their level of imitating others, we as their teachers need to act so carefully so we won't show them a bad attitude which will influence their attitude and personality in future.

But even so, I think being a teacher to teach kids will be so fun since I love kids. Cause everytime I see a kid, I always smile and happy cause they are so cute, adorable, and funny. So, if one day I become a teacher who are teaching English to kids, I think I'll always having fun and always happy while working. I hope I can be a good teacher one day.

Hello fellas!!! Speaking about assessment, we usually think about grading, scoring, judging. It's about the result of assessing that can be in the form of quality or quantity. Almost everyday in every area in our life, we face that thing that called assessment. It can be assessment in school, assessment in job, etc. In teaching English to young learners we also need that so-called assessment. But in assessing young learners, we need a different way to assess compared to older learners. We need to assess the kids carefully in order to avoid an issue where the toung learners would lose their interest in learning cause in some cases children who got a low grade may lose their motivation in learning. Materials Evaluation and Materials Design

Hello, nice to see you again! When teaching English to young learners, all things needed is really different compared to teaching older learners, including the materials.  In teaching young learners, we need to design materials that not only needed or important to be taught, but also we have to consider the readiness of the learners to learn those mateials. No matter how important a certain material needed, if the learners don't ready yet, then it would be useless. Not only in designing the materials, but teacher also need to consider the materials evaluation. We have to avoid a bias evaluation and an unfair materials evaluation. We should evaluate based on the student's position, point of view, inteligence, personality, condition, etc. We shouldn't give the same evaluation for every individual that obviously different one another.

Research in The Primary English Classroom

Here I'll talk about a research in the primary English classroom that I search online. The title of the research is "English Language Teaching at Makassar Primary Schools: A Case Study" that is written by Rosmadewi.  The aim of the research was to find out the current practice of English language teaching at elementary schools by looking at the teachers and students perspectives especially in relation to the English teaching materials, teaching aids, and time allocation. It was also to uncover the challenges teachers faced in teaching English at primary school level. The data gained through observation, questionnaire and interview. The observation was conducted to get an understanding of teaching and learning in classroom context.  The questionnaire was used to get the learners’ perspective on teaching English at primary level. In addition, semi-structured interview was conducted to gain a deeper understanding of teachers’ viewpoints in ELT practice in elementary schools....
