Research in The Primary English Classroom

Here I'll talk about a research in the primary English classroom that I search online. The title of the research is "English Language Teaching at Makassar Primary Schools: A Case Study" that is written by Rosmadewi.  The aim of the research was to find out the current practice of English language teaching at elementary schools by looking at the teachers and students perspectives especially in relation to the English teaching materials, teaching aids, and time allocation. It was also to uncover the challenges teachers faced in teaching English at primary school level. The data gained through observation, questionnaire and interview. The observation was conducted to get an understanding of teaching and learning in classroom context.  The questionnaire was used to get the learners’ perspective on teaching English at primary level. In addition, semi-structured interview was conducted to gain a deeper understanding of teachers’ viewpoints in ELT practice in elementary schools.

Materials Evaluation and Materials Design

Hello, nice to see you again! When teaching English to young learners, all things needed is really different compared to teaching older learners, including the materials.  In teaching young learners, we need to design materials that not only needed or important to be taught, but also we have to consider the readiness of the learners to learn those mateials. No matter how important a certain material needed, if the learners don't ready yet, then it would be useless. Not only in designing the materials, but teacher also need to consider the materials evaluation. We have to avoid a bias evaluation and an unfair materials evaluation. We should evaluate based on the student's position, point of view, inteligence, personality, condition, etc. We shouldn't give the same evaluation for every individual that obviously different one another.

The meaning of learning to learn is  the ability to pursue and persist in learning, to organise one's own learning, including through effective management of time and information, both individually and in groups.   The point of learning to learn is to learn or develop our knowledge so we can use it in many fields in our life.  We keep learning because everything keeps changing, when everything is changing, our needs will change as well-including the needs in education.  The way and the goals of teaching young learners will far more different compared to young learners 10 years ago. Hello fellas!!! Speaking about assessment, we usually think about grading, scoring, judging. It's about the result of assessing that can be in the form of quality or quantity. Almost everyday in every area in our life, we face that thing that called assessment. It can be assessment in school, assessment in job, etc. In teaching English to young learners we also need that so-called assessment. But in assessing young learners, we need a different way to assess compared to older learners. We need to assess the kids carefully in order to avoid an issue where the toung learners would lose their interest in learning cause in some cases children who got a low grade may lose their motivation in learning. So, now, I'm going to talk about teaching vocabulary and grammar in teaching young learners.  Vocabulary and grammar commonly are the most difficult to learn to when young learners are studying English, even for adult. Seeing this issue we can also conclude that for those who are learning English and find it difficult to learn vocabulary and gramar are not properly taught. Usually their reasons are learning vocabulary and grammar too difficult, boring, etc. So, now we can find out that the key is in the way they learn or in they are being taught. In learning English, there are four skills that needed to develop in order to be able to communicate fluently. But, here I'll only discuss two of them namely reading and writing skills.  Basically, all the English skills are developed by the help of English teacher. So, here I'll discuss some factors that needed to be concerned by the English teacher to help their students to develop their reading and writing skills. The first is teaching reading.
